There are various steps involved to apply for General Skilled Migration

First Step: Assessing your eligibility in regards to your qualifications, work experience, English requirement and other factors. General Skilled Migration (GSM) is point based visa and points are awarded for;

  • Age
  • English Ability
  • Skilled Employment Experience
  • Qualifications
  • Australian Qualification
  • If you have completed any specialist qualification
  • If you are accredited in a community language, studied in regional Australia, have completed a professional year program or your partner has skills required by Australia.

Second Step: Performing Skills Assessment. A skills assessment is an independent assessment by the appropriate authority licensed to determine your qualifications and or employment history to assess if they are comparable to the Australian standards in your chosen occupation.

Third Step: Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) visa SkillSelect. An Expression of Interest is an online system that determines your suitability for migration to Australia. An Expression of Interest (EOI) is not a visa application and no associated bridging visas are granted with the application.

Fourth Step: Applying for State/Territory Nomination (if applicable). If you are applying for a State/Territory nominated visa, you must apply for a nomination from that Australian State/Territory. Each State/Territory has its own nomination requirements that must be met.

Fifth Step: Applying for your skilled visa. If you have received an invitation via Skill Select you are then able to apply for your visa. If you are in Australia at time of application, you may be eligible for a Bridging Visa to allow you to remain in Australia lawfully past the expiry of your current/previous visa and until the skilled visa application is finalized.
